Resolutions, here we come.

Sunset Magazine

I hate New Year's resolutions.  I always end up breaking them.  Actually, I rarely even end up starting them.  I usually just whine and moan about them and obsess over them and try to get the plan perfect and then when it's time to start, nothing happens.  I just sit there like I did the previous year and do nothing.

Of course, I exaggerate a bit.  You'll learn this about me as I continue to write.  My closest friends and family know this is my biggest fault and my greatest hilarity.

Anyway, back to the point:  I hated New Year's resolutions until I saw this post and immediately shot over to here and got crazy depressed.  Mainly because I just wish I could do this!  I mean, this would be my resolution if I had one.  This, and to lose weight and to stop worrying and to clean the dishes (my husband's already stuck on this one) and to make more handmade things and to garden more and to practice piano more etc. etc.

But seriously, this is inspiring.  So much so that I think the bulk jar thing may be the next step to greening our home.  That, I think, is an attainable resolution.

To blog or not to blog...

How does one start a blog exactly?

After writing my inaugural entry last night, I laid in bed awake trying to think of my next entry.  This may seem a bit obsessive but once I opened this Pandora's Box I felt a bit doomed.  How does one pick the first topic to tell the internet cosmos about that is important enough to you to write about first?  Circular, I know.  Let me try again.  What is the most important topic to me?  What would I want my first internet footprint to be?

So, now with my cup of coffee, trying to avoid getting ready for work, I'm still trying to figure it out.

Or maybe the answer is my first real entry doesn't have to be that outrageously momentous.  I think this may in actuality just be a site of random thoughts that have no real place on the spectrum of importance.  Yeah, I like that better.

So let's give it a shot.

I assume this woman is in the medical field because no one can rock Danskos this hard without some serious practice.

The Sartorialist

This gorgeous table is the "reason why" for my friend who's getting married in June.  And I have to say, it may be the be-all-end-all for me as well.

Once Wed

I ran across this post yesterday and was out-of-control inspired.  Images from Miss Moss.

And if you haven't tried this recipe yet, you should.  I think it made me comfortable with the idea of butter as a normally used ingredient.  Simple, yes.  Powerful, oh yeah.

Smitten Kitchen

I think that's good for now.  More to come--

2011

At the recommendation of my darling husband, I am starting a blog.

I'm running against the clock here, actually it's the battery life on my computer, currently at 17% and dropping fast.  I guess it's the clock too--it's 11:10 p.m. and I'm not one to stay up too late.  Except of course when my bed mate is still working, which he is at this time.  Working his tail off to see a dream through.  I couldn't be more proud of him.

Until he comes to bed, I have another bed mate that takes his place.  He does know about it and he's surprisingly understanding.  Probably because he knows this other dude cannot do many of the things he can do and therefore I will probably continue to give my loyalty to him, the human man in my life.

I could keep going on this ramble that would start talking about how I'm starting a blog and end up talking about my favorite cornbread recipe or my thoughts on religion.  I suppose this ability to expound is one reason why I was encouraged to start this thing in the first place.  The other reason may be that I enjoy myself a blog or two and if you want to know what's going on around the web, I'm your girl.  Of course, this is only if you're interested in the things I am interested in--design, beauty, art, food, home, inspiration, music, life.

This may turn out to be a failed endeavor as many of my writing projects do eventually end up half full and then leave the rest of the pages blank.  But it's free and not killing trees so I guess I'll give it a shot.

Let me know what you think, great internet cosmos.  And D, remember, this is for you.
